Report from the Road: CodeMash 2018, a Family-Friendly Developer Conference

Last week, CodeMash 2018 took place at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. GrapeCity served as a Gold sponsor for CodeMash 2018, and we had a blast this year! The Kalahari Resort is an indoor/outdoor waterpark, and is a great place for families. It's the perfect host for CodeMash, which also provides activities for the entire family.

Day 1 – Thursday, January 11

Thursday was packed with activities from early morning through midnight. After breakfast, sessions began at 8 AM and continued throughout the day until 6 PM. We were pretty busy at our table, and we made some great connections throughout the day.

At 6 PM, the CodeMash team hosted a dinner for the attendees. They also presented an overview of the preparation for this years event and recognized the committee and contributors who made it all possible. Keep up the good work!

After dinner, the attendee party included an incredible dessert bar and karaoke. The indoor waterpark also extended the hours of operation until 1 AM for CodeMash attendees.

There's an ongoing theme at CodeMash that you should only get 3 hours of sleep... Now you know why. Great food and activities consume you.

Day 2 – Friday, January 12

Fortunately, the next day started 30 minutes later, with sessions beginning at 8:30 AM.

Later that afternoon, Bhupesh Malhotra, Product Manager of GrapeCity's Active Reports, spoke during the Sponsor sessions at 1:30 PM. The session was titled "Tips to Roll out Self-Service BI Successfully".

The presentation highlighted a few guidelines to consider when working on Business Intelligence solutions, including how to select and categorize the types of users of your application, and provide consistent with data access model.

The last session on Friday ended at 5 PM, but some attendees and sponsors packed up early to beat the weather. Since we were driving back to Pittsburgh, we left around 3 PM and managed to get back safely, avoiding the dozens of accidents that occurred on the road. Despite the weather, CodeMash is a great way to network and learn how businesses are tackling problems with the latest technology. It's also a productive way to spend vacation with family!
