Windows Phone 7 Minimum Hardware

All WP7 manufacturers (currently announced Dell, Asus, Samsung, LG, HTC) agree to have the following minimum hardware. Competition between handsets will be through design or improvements on the standard features below.

• Screen resolution QVGA 800x480
• Capacitive touch, 4 or more contact points
• Sensors include A-GPS, accelerometer, compass, light and proximity
• 5MP camera, with LED flash
• Multimedia is GPU accelerated, DirectX 9 and H.264 encoders in hardware
• 256MB system RAM, 8GB or more flash
• ARMv7 Cortex/Scorpion 1GHz
• Hardware buttons must be Back, Start and Search only; no additional hardware buttons

There is no developer access to the Start button, but the Start and Search functions can be made application specific

There is a future screen size with no ETA, 480/320 HVGA. This is to allow for smaller devices. There will only be two resolutions, and SDKs will have classes to detect and handle the differences in screen size.
