Creating user-friendly interfaces for the holidays should be top retailer priority

HTML5 is highly useful for organizations that need to accept input from a variety of products and platforms. As e-commerce continues to expand to other platforms, including mobile devices, it will be more important for companies to create ways of interacting with users that work with them on any platform. Amongst the most powerful of the tools that enterprises have available to them in order to get across the "language barrier" is HTML5. Finding ways to make sure that different elements of HTML5 forms are easily used by people is important to making powerful use of these different avenues of access.

A recent tip featured by HTML Goodies was about the use of placeholders within an empty input box. The text that a placeholder puts inside of a form box in a Web page shows users what kind of input a website expects in a form box. This can be very important for guiding consumers on a website on how to format a phone number that is put into a field, or a credit card number, or a date. This can serve to make the entire UI much more workable for customers, ultimately providing a stronger user experience throughout the piece.

Be user-friendly for the holidays
This kind of strong development of UI for consumers will be very important this 2014 holiday shopping season. According to a report from MarketLive, 70 percent of customers are likely to research products on a mobile devices, and just under half of them are likely to make purchases through a mobile application during the holiday rush. Finding ways to reach a majority of the holiday audience through the use of HTML5 can be an important part of a business strategy for the holidays. As mobile becomes even more used for online shopping, the importance of accessible content that is suited to being used on a variety of platforms will continue to grow.

The best way to make sure that an audience can buy from a given online merchant is to make sure that her audience can access that merchant's Web page. Unless a target demographic can actually open up the store page for a company and purchase goods from it, they will not buy from that supplier. Using HTML5 in order to create powerful interfaces that are system-agnostic is a way to push into the future of online selling.
