I’m Speaking at codepaLOUsa

And I’m thrilled to be going back to my hometown!

If you don’t know what codepaLOUsa is, from their site:

CodepaLOUsa is a two-day, seven track software development conference to be held March 4 and 5, 2011 at the historic Seelbach Hilton Hotel in downtown Louisville, KY. The conference is designed to to cover all aspects of software development regardless of technology stack. We will have sessions revolving around Microsoft, Java, and other development platforms; along with session on higher levels that are platform agnostic. The conference schedule will feature presentations from well-known professionals in the software development community. We are planning on conducting sixty seventy-minute-long technical presentations and panel discussions, plus a keynote speech during the first evening of the event.

There is an awesome lineup of speakers, including Eric Sink, Don Demask and Markus Egger. I’m looking forward to catching up again with Jason Follas (speaking on one of my favorite features of SQL Server 2008), Jeff Blankenburg (also doing a WP7 talk), Matt Groves (I saw him speak about CakePHP at CMAP Code Camp--cool stuff), and David Yancey (TDD is a great practice, but many devs I encounter are resistant to add it into already baked application code—hopefully his talk helps with that).

I will be presenting two sessions:

206 - Connecting Windows Phone 7 to Microsoft Azure using WCF

Windows Phone 7 and Azure are hot topics this year, and the two together is a winning combination. In this session, we'll have a short overview of Azure and WCF, then look at the free tools and guidelines used to build applications for WP7 (you don't even need a phone to get started). We'll then dig in and create a WCF service backed by SQL Azure, then create a WP7 app to consume the service and display the data.

(this is a fun talk I’ve given several times)

309 – AZURE 101

What is Microsoft Azure? Is Azure right for my applications? Do I have to use .NET, or can I develop in PHP or Java? What level of calculus do I need to figure out the billing? These questions and more answered by an experienced enterprise developer and co-author of Microsoft Azure: Enterprise Application Development.

We'll look at the features of Azure, how they can be used together or individually, and we'll examine the libraries and tools useful in building, debugging and managing applications on the Azure platform. Along the way, we'll look behind the scenes of a production Azure application to see how all the pieces fit together.

ComponentOne is pleased to be a Silver sponsor, and I’ll be a booth babe when I’m not speaking. Find me for swag and information on our 2011 v1 release, which will be just about this same time.
