May 2011 Appearances

The year is 1/3 over, and according to TripIt, I’ve been on the road 39 days, made 10 trips, visited 22 cities and travelled just shy of 13,000 miles. May is another busy month, too. Here’s where I’ll be:

SharePoint Saturday – Houston (May 7)

ComponentOne has a great Studio for SharePoint, and we’re a week and a half from a new release with some major new additions. I’m not speaking, just working the both and talking SharePoint. I was an SP admin for both 2003 and 2007 (I took servers from bare metal to portal, and did the migration from old to new). At C1, I’m just a user for 2010, which is a nice change for me. If you’re an Office 365 administrator, our Web Parts work in the sandboxed environment, too!

NYC WPF & Silverlight (May 12)

I apologize for rescheduling this from April, but I’m finally getting to make my long promised appearance in New York City. Thanks to Wayne for the invite, and Wayne, Erik and Boulos for working around a late schedule change.

Using ASP.NET Authentication in Silverlight Applications

It's a fair bet that most applications require a membership repository of some sort. With .NET 2.0, Microsoft shipped the ASP.NET Authentication Provider, which made it very easy to add a full-featured membership repository to ASP.NET applications. This same authentication provider can be used in Silverlight applications without a lot of work. New project templates released with Silverlight 4 and RIA Services make this provider even easier to work with. In this session, we'll review the capabilities of this provider and see how we implement and extend it with Silverlight 4 applications.

I had some demo issues at Philly Code Camp with this talk, so I’ll be spending a few days making sure it’s running correctly.

Tech-Ed Atlanta (May 16-19)

I fly straight from New York City to Atlanta for Tech-Ed. I’ll be working the booth, we have a brisk demo schedule, plus three of our products are finalists for the “Best of Tech-Ed” award, and I’ll be giving two of those demos. We’ll have all sorts of swag and giveaways, plus previews of our upcoming products. Our new Studio for SharePoint launches this week, and we’ll be doing demos of the latest functionality in that, too. I have a couple side trips planned between my arrival in Atlanta and when Tech-Ed starts, updates on those as they happen.
