The BizTalk Server: SOA & Business Process conference - day two

After having completed day two of the conference I am impressed. I didn't keep count, but I bet I gave nearly 40 demo's of Spread for BizTalk today. We made several contacts with BizTalk consultants, and hopefully we started some business relationships that will last well into the future. We also met a couple training specialists who seem interested in modifying their coursework to include a section on how to load XLS files into BizTalk orchestrations. Once again the feedback was excellent, and once again I was encouraged by the excitement regarding the product. One thing I found particularly interesting today is while the vast majority of folks we spoke with were impressed, even excited, about Spread for BizTalk there was one certain company where each individual who stopped by our booth, with the exception of one person, made it a point to mention that Office 2007 would likely make Spread for BizTalk obsolete. These comments were all made very politely, and each of the individuals went out of their way to provide me with feedback on things we can do to make Spread for BizTalk a viable participant in the BizTalk space. By no means did I feel insulted, dejected, disappointed or any other negative emotion, but I did find it very interesting.

I look forward to attending the session tomorrow on Windows Workflow Foundation: Creating Custom Activities for Workflows by Paul Andrews. I plan to slip away from the booth for an hour to catch this. Hey Pete, you heard that, right?

As a final note for the evening, we ended the night at Daman's Sports Grill in Redmond, and what a great turn of luck that was. We stopped in the Red Robin for a quick nightcap, but due to some quirky rule about the Red Robin requiring people from the UK to have a passport to order a beer, we ended up at Daman's. Wednesday night is open mic night at Daman's and we were all floored by the quality of the performers and bands. Incredible! The service was great, and the clientele were very pleasant. Daman's will be a guaranteed stop the next time I'm in Redmond!
