    Hi Support,

My company is now using VB6.0 with True DBGrid Pro7 for system development in Windows 7 platform.

However, as the support for Windows 7 will be ended in year 2020, we are now planning to upgrade the OS to Windows 10.

After some investigations on Windows 10 with our existing system, we found that the True DBGrid is not working

I would like to ask is there any solution to let the system with grid run in Win10?

As I know, the version my company use is no longer supported, we are now also planning the True DBGrid component.

Please suggest what version/tools should be upgrade so that our system can run in Win10, with development tools VB6 & .NET.

One more important question, in case we purchase a new version/tools, do we need to programming the system again to adopt the new version, or we can just install the OCX/DLL file and re-compile the system again.

As we need the information to estimate what should we do first, please help to give us some suggestions.

    Best Regards,

    Manmo

    Hi Manmo,

You are right. The support for all the ActiveX controls below version 8.0 has been officially withdrawn. We do not support these legacy controls anymore.

If you wish to use VB6 in this new environment, you can go with the latest version of our ActiveX Edition:

    https://www.grapecity.com/en/activex

However, if you are looking for developing applications in .Net, I would suggest to use WinForms Edition which includes TrueDBGrid for WinForms:

    https://www.grapecity.com/en/winforms

    https://www.grapecity.com/en/controls/winforms/truedbgrid

Both these Editions are supported in modern environments including Windows 10.

    Download Link: https://www.grapecity.com/en/download

Regarding the upgrade, projects that use older versions of TrueDBGrid other than TrueDBGrid Pro 8.0 can easily be converted to use the later by running the add-in migration utility. Please refer the following blog article for more information on this:

    https://www.grapecity.com/en/blogs/true-dbgrid-pro-8-0-migration-utility

You would need to create the project from scratch if start with .Net as a technology.

    Thanks,

    Hi Pragati,

Thanks for your prompt reply & suggestion on my questions.

You have suggested 2 edition, ActiveX edition for VB6 & WinForms edition for .NET, that is suitable for my company to continue the development.

As it is hard to convert all VB6 programs into .NET in a short period, my company should need to have both version for development.

Therefore I would like to know is there any version/package that contain both ActiveX & WinForms edition?

    Best Regards,

    Manmo

    Hi Pragati,

    Thanks so much!

Just one more question, is the Free Trial version of TrueDBGrid Pro 8.0 (ActiveX edition) included with the add-in migration utility?

As I would need to test this important function before confirming the purchase, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Manmo

    Hi Manmo,

Yes, it is included with the trial version as well. It’s always better to confirm the things before actually migrating. Would suggest to take a back up of your original project first.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

I’m migrating an old legacy system that uses C1 ActiveX version 6.0

This project is too old and the company lost the licences.

The information that I got from you commercial dept is that we need to buy the C1 ActiveX version 8.0

So I have installed the DBList Pro 7 and DBGrid Pro 7 (trial) and migrated from 6 to 7 and I’ve downloaded the Free trial version and used the migration utility avaiable in folder:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\ComponentOne\ActiveX\Utilities\Convert_7_8

The program run fine and migrated to version 8 sucessfully.

But When application run, we got an error… checking into this I can see that DbGrid Styles did not migrate…

    Could please help?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Can you please share the screenshot of the error that you face? I would suggest you to try upgrading a simple version 7 project to version 8 and see if the issue still persists?

Note- ActiveX controls are in maintenance mode. We do not provide any new features in the product.
