We are currently evaluating ARS 9 and would like to see if there is an easy migration path from our current solution to this one. Our current solution uses an SSRS report model that was built on an older version of SSRS. I have tried to upload the smdl file and continue to get the following errors while uploading:

The specified namespace is not associated with the current xml document.
    Model could not be loaded.
In Line 2 at Position 2: Could not find schema information for the element 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2004/10/semanticmodeling:SemanticModel'.
In Line 2 at Position 16: Could not find schema information for the attribute 'ID'.

Here is the beginning of the smdl file:

    en-US

Any help or suggestions that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    David

    Bhupesh,

I understand what you are saying, but the documentation states differently. According to the documentation for AR9 Server, you can upload an existing model with the following extensions (.datamodel, .xml, and .smdl) so long as the file uses valid semantic model data.

The data model that I am trying to upload was taken from SSRS and appears to use valid semantic model data. I just continue to get the error that I stated in my original post.

Do you have any thoughts on why I would be getting that error trying to upload an SSRS data model with a file extension of smdl?

    Thank you,
    David

    Hi David,

The Data Models in the Server are proprietary to ActiveReports Server. These are different from the SSRS models and thus do not support conversion.

To use the Server Report Designer, you will have to generate a new model from your database. You should be able to make it look like the current SSRS model from the end user's perspective.

Feel free to contact me in case you have more questions on this.

    Cheers,
    Bhupesh.

    Hello,

Thank you for sharing the information with us.

Could you please share with us the SSRS version with which the semantic datamodel was created. You mentioned that it was created using one of the older version of SSRS, hence might be the reason for the issue.

Once we know the exact version of SSRS, we would escalate the issue to the respective team and would get the confirmation from them.

    Hello Mohita,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I am sorry I didn't include the version in one of my previous posts. We are currently using SSRS 2008.

Thank you again, and I will look forward to hearing from you soon.

We have forwarded the request to get the same added in documentation to avoid any confusion.
