Got an issue opening a VB6 project that has several ActiveReports in it.  Just started happening out of the blue.  Getting "Can't instantiate control. Control is not registered. CLSID={00000000-00BC-0000-684F-DACF3AE20447} (Name) = "??? lblRptGen".  After this error, VB crashes as well.  The project was not changed in between last time i successfully opened it and now.  If something did change, i'm not sure what or how?  I did locate the offending report, and cannot open it individually either, obviously.  Do i need to scrap the bad report and try to recreate it?  Or can i somehow repair/recover this report to it's working state?  Or at least tell it (how?) to ignore the missing control and just open up, and then i can repair it manually.

Thanks for any help!  Chris F

    Hello,

The error code mentions that some controls that have been used in this report have been unregistered. We are not aware of which control this CLSID refers to. This may be a third party control that you have used in the report. Are you able to open other dsrs in your project?

    Hello Prantik,
I am able to open all but one of the other designers in this project individually with VB6.  The control lblRptGen is simply a label type field on the report.  Is there some way i can re-register this control in consideration of the fact that i can't open the report in VB?  Or, somehow to simply delete it so that i can open the project at least...  then i can figure out what that label was and re-add it in.

Thanks for the reply...  I look forward to your next!

    Chris,

Please try reinstalling ActiveReports and check if you can open the DSRs.

    Hello Prantik,
I reinstalled ActiveReports, but that didn't resolve the problem.  I discovered that the two problem reports' files time stamps and apparently file sizes all changed on the same day back in February.  I recovered just those two reports files (.dsx, .dsr, and .dca) from the day before the new time stamp because i knew i didn't change those reports since the last time i recompiled the project was the previous November (2008).  Obviously, somehow these reports became corrupted back in Feb 09.  After recovering the reports back to their status just before that, i was able to open the project no problem.

    Thanks for your assistance, Chris

p.s. I also spoke to you on the phone on this same issue earlier this week.  You can close that issue as well
