Phonebook Style Tabs on Page Header?

The Problem: I'm using ActiveReports with VB6 to generate a report from an SQL query and then export to a pdf.  My client wants each page of the report to have phonebook style tabs on the top of the each page with the , , and the of the first record of the page of the report placed on the left-hand side of the header, and the values from the same columns for the last record of the page on the right-hand side of the header.

About Me: I've been programming for about 2 1/2 years now, so I can program out of a wet paper bag, but I may have some questions about the solutions you propose.  I typically work with C# .NET, and the occasional classic ASP.  I've never worked with VB6 before, but I have worked with VB .NET, so I should be okay with most things you throw at me.

If you add page header to your report and add TextBox control (with DataFiled property set to one of your fields) to it you will get field value of the first data row of the page. Then you need to remember last filed value at the detail section after_print event and draw it using DrawText method at the page_end event.

    Sample project is attached.
