Search/Replace Variable Names & properties

I have mutiple reports that all use the variable txtMonday.  txtMonday has the property DataField = MondayHours.

I would like to do a search/replace that would change txtMonday to txtDay1 and MondayHours to Day1Hours.  When I do the search/replace it changes the txtMonday in the code like the Private Sub dtlDetail_Format() correctly, but I'd also like to have it change it in the report designer.  Can this be done?

In vb.net it would work, but I'm guessing that in VB6 it won't work.  Are these values stored in the .dsx file?  Is there a way to manually edit the .dsx file and change it?

    Any other suggestions?

Is there any way to modify .dsr & .dsx files from code?  Can the runtime designer be used for this?

Unfortunately, this is not possible since these are binary files and we do not release this format for proprietary reasons. The report layout and any embedded script could be saved to the .RPX format. These RPX files could then be easily edited programmatically. The End User Designer control works with RPX files, not DSR and DSX files.
