Spurious Group Header lines in the Page Header section - make that Report Header section.

I have set up a report where I feed it up to 7 sort fields that can be selected by the user from a list of valid field names.

Each of these, if selected becomes a Group Header value, 1-7, and is used in the sort prior to running the report.

After much gnashing of teeth, it all seems to be working fine, except the Group Headers are appearing on the Page Header where I list the selection and sort fields used by the report.

Is there a known bug out there for something like this or have I miss-set something in my hundreds of little tweaks to get this to work?

(Off course, if I did miss-set something, if you have an idea what the something is, please include it.)

    Thanks in advance,

I must first apologize.  I miss-spoke in the subject and earlier description.  It is the Report Header that contains the spurious lines of data, as produced by the Group Header setups.  And the spurious lines vary.  At one time all 7, the next run 2 or 3, sometimes overprinting each other, and once in a while, a clean Report header with no extra lines on it.  The Report Header is treated as a separate page and the guts of the reports starts on the next page.

I have not tried running the report without the Report Header, but all other situations in all Group Headers are working fine every page after the page header.

I am not very proficient in moving around in AR, so I am not real sure how to run it without the Page Header, but all seven or just one or two, or however many sort fields (and therefore Group Header sections) the user chooses print fine, as does the detail section and Page Header.

    Thanks,

Copy the report and remove the report header from the copy. You can also color the background of the sections to help identify the problem. I am afraid it is hard for me to tell what could be the problem without running this under a debugger. Can you put this report in a little sample and post it here.

I am not aware of such a bug. What happens if you run the report without the page header, what change do you see in the Group Header placement.

Just in case it will help, I can supply the RPX I am using.  That is the only place I was working (that I recall) when the extra heading lines started appearing in the report header section.  At the time I was creating the code for providing the 7 variable sort fields, abbreviations and  description data (gh1data thru gh7data & gf1data-gf7data) as the sort/grouping display values in the group heading sections.

In between parts of that, I was also adding the stuff to make those with no entry not visible.  The making of the detail section non visible was done before the headers went awry.

The rpx was rejected - you can see I'm new at this too.

    I'll try a zip.

Just in case anyone was looking at this posting, it looks like a bug to my novice level self.

No matter what I tried the spurious group header lines (up to 7 of them) would appear at will at the upper left corner of the Heading page, in no particular order, sometimes one on top of another.

What was happening was the repeat properties seemed to want to repeat up on the header page as well.  It did not do that until I made the sort/grouping fields variable or calculated fields where I concatonated some data together and allowed the user to pick which fields out of a preset table of them, they wanted to use to sort and group with.

As soon as I removed the repeat property (every page or all) it worked fine.

In any case, thanks for the one reply and I hope this helps someone else some day.
