We want to use ComponentOne for our development but each time we start a demo solution we get a popup asking for admin rights. Our dev PC’s don’t have admin rights enabled for developers so it’s not possible to use grapeCity.

Is this only when using the demo version or will we always need to have admin rights when using ComponentOne Studio?

    Hello,

Currently, it is not possible to run the Sample Explorer application without administrator rights.

However, you can access the samples without administrator rights by navigating to the following directory:

    C:\Users\<username>\Documents\ComponentOne Samples

Here, you can find the solutions for each sample in the Sample Explorer.

Using the controls in Visual Studio will not require admin rights.

Thank you Esha for your reply.

Will we need admin rights in the future once we use an official license?

How does this work when we want to create production deployment packages via a build server?

    regards,

    Steve

You can skip having admin rights for using the controls. As mentioned earlier, using the controls in Visual Studio will not require admin rights.

As you say about deploying the created production deployment packages via a build server, can you please inform if you are talking about including the SamplesExplorer in your deployment packages? If yes, kindly share the use case.

    Thanks,

    Esha,

Will we need admin rights in the future once we use an official license?

So the GrapeCity only needs to be installed by an admin user and then all other users logging in will be able to reference the installed components?

We are not deploying the SamplesExplorer just code referencing the GrapeCity components. But we are used to work with Nuget packages but here we need hard references to dll’s installed on the server. So we need to install an extra license on the build servers to create/build the deployment packages or is there a way to use Nuget?

That’s right. The components must be purchased and installed by an admin user and further, the components can be used by all other users.

You can evaluate the ComponentOne controls for a month without the license and while this period, you can create your applications but with evaluation message nag screen. Following this, the license is mandatory while using the ComponentOne controls for creating applications, either on WinForms or while using NuGet packages.

    Hope this helps.
