RTF celltype questions

    Hi there!

    I have two questions concerning the handling of the RTF celltype:

    1. When I enter a cell having RTF set as celltype and perform a right-click, I get a context menu. This context menu is in English language. Is there a possibility to change the language of this context menu e.g. to German?

    2. When I select "Font..." from the context menu, the buttons for B(old) and I(talic) are disabled (gray). The button for U(nderline) is enabled, but it is not applied when being pressed. Is this the default behavior?! I know that I can use the context menu item "Style" to set these properties, too, but the behavior of the Font-dialogue is really strange.

    Best regards!
    Robert

    PS: I'm using Spread for Windows Form v2.5.2011.2005

    Hi,
    is there a pssibility to ask the developers? They should know under which circumstances the buttons disable themselves.
    Best regards,
    Robert

    Robin -

    You are correct that I do not have a Terminal Server on which to test this.  I can't really think of anything that would cause the buttons to be disabled.

    BobM:
    I am not able to reproduce the issue with the buttons being disabled.  They always appear enabled in my testing.

    BobM,
    I made some further tests and found out, that this problem only occurs when my application runs on Terminal Server. My first assumption was, that some fonts might not be installed on the Terminal Server but all Arial fonts that are installed on my local PC are also installed on the Terminal Server. Any idea why the buttons could be deactivated? I admit, it's not easy for you to reproduce this issue if you do not have a Terminal Server on your side... :-(

    Best regards,
    Robert

    Robin -

    At this time there is not a way to modify the context menu that is associated with the celltype.  I am not able to reproduce the issue with the buttons being disabled.  They always appear enabled in my testing.

    The developer said it's possible that the font that the font dialog is picking up from the cell may not support the bold and italic styles, in which case the buttons would be disabled.  Also, if the dialog doesn't recognize the font it will try to find the closest match, which again, may not support those styles.  Most likely, however, is that it's a Terminal Server issue.  You mentioned you are using Arial, which does support both these styles, and it seems you have tested this on your own machine, so it may be that Terminal Server locks these styles or something like that.

    I will see if the developer has any insights and let you know.

    Tanks, BobM, for this information.
    I will do some testing concerning the fonts on the Terminal Server.
    If I find a solution, I will post it here.

    Best regards,
    Robert

    Robert -

    The developer that handles this is off today but I have e-mailed him and asked him to take a look at this when he gets back.

    Robert -

    We are going to try and find a way to test this on Terminal Server but the developer is still uncertain that it's a bug with spread.  It may be the way that Terminal Server handles the API calls going between the client and the server.  There are many other things that occur when passing data back and forth so the developer doesn't want to commit a firm yes or no as to whether this can be tracked down.  I have written it up as a low level bug so we can continue to try and figure it out.  If there is any other information you could provide us with please pass it along.

    Robert -

    Would you please provide the code you are using for your RTF and either the text in the cell you are selecting or where you are placing your insertion point so we can start trying to figure out what might be happening.

    BobM,

    well, we have designed a spreadsheet with Spread Designer (see attachment) containing just one cell with RTF celltype. We then load this spreadsheet into our program. There is no special code running, we just load the template with the Spread.Open functionality - you can simulate this by loading the template into Spread Designer and starting the Preview. If you then enter the cell, mark some words, perform a right-click and choose "Font..." from the RTF context menu, the three buttons for B(old), I(talic) and U(nderline) are disabled, when running the program on the Terminal Server. When the user now chooses another font out of the combobox and switches then back to the previous font (Arial), the buttons are suddenly enabled and can be used.

    Robert

    I found something out:
    When the three buttons are disabled, I just have to use the combobox to switch to another font and then back to the previous font and the buttons work again!
    So it seems like it's a bug in this dialogue and not on the Terminal Server side.
    If the developer could just use the program code they use when switching fonts already when the dialogue opens, everything would be fine.

    Thank you very much for your quick reply.

    My Farpoint Spread is Farpoint Spread 3.0 version. I use it in VC++ 6.0.

    I insert this ActiveX control into my controls.I postion one FarPoint Spread 3.0 object into one dialog box. What I can do is right-click it and open Spread Designer 3.0.05(32-bit)-Spread Designer window. Where should I type the codes you provided in your reply letter?

    Hello,

    The code given to you by Bob is the VB code for Spread. There is equivalent C++ code you can write in the cpp file for the dialog window. But if you are using the Spread Designer, you can right click the cell in question and set the celltype to StaticText. On the wizard that appears is a box to set the StaticText you want displayed in the cell.

    You posted this in the Spread for WindowsForms section but this version does not have a static text celltype.  That is in our COM version.  If that is the version you are using keep in mind that the static text cell is not editable.  You have to add the text programatically...

    ss.Col = 1
    ss.Row = 1
    ss.CellType = CellTypeStaticText
    ss.Text = "Test"

    Hello,

    There is not any documentation on the COM products online somewhere to download. You can install the product to get the documentation. You can download the ltest maintenance release of the COM product from our web site and that install will have documentation.
