Add ease-of-use and performance enhancements to the ADO.NET Entity Framework and RIA Services

July 6, 2011 - PITTSBURGH, PA - ComponentOne, a leader in developer-productivity tools essential to build enterprise-level applications for the desktop, Web, and mobile devices, today released a Community Technology Preview (CTP) of a product that makes using the Microsoft ADO.NET Entity Framework easier and more powerful. The first new product offering from ComponentOne this quarter, Studio for Entity Framework CTP adds ease-of-use and performance enhancements to the ADO.NET Entity Framework and RIA Services.

Studio for Entity Framework provides a design-time component, C1DataSource that allows its user to configure entity sets on the designer surface quickly and with minimal code. Greg Lutz, product manager at ComponentOne stated, “It improves and simplifies data binding with these frameworks by solving common problems related to loading, paging, filtering, and saving data.”

“It also provides performance enhancements such as fast loading and transparent scrolling over large data sets with Virtual Mode. Most of its features are made possible through its smart client-side data caching and memory management,” said Lutz. Lutz added that it is the first product of its kind to work on top of the Entity Framework and RIA Services, so users don’t have to change the way they are already handling their data, or learn a new ORM framework.

The company’s Studio for Entity Framework product page details that the product has been specifically designed for multiple platforms: Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Silverlight, and even Windows Forms, and it can be used with any User Interface (UI) controls. There is also a live demonstration that shows just how the product provides performance enhancements for large data sets with paging and Virtual Mode. Looking to implement paging in Windows Forms and WPF? The demo shows it is as easy as just setting the PageSize property.

The signup for ComponentOne’s CTP is open and may be found at www.componentone.com/SEF. Registration will include special Entity Framework communication from ComponentOne and early access to the release to web (RTW), which the company has slated for fall of 2011.
