Discussion for topics related to ComponentOne Studio WinUI Edition

Will the C1.Xaml.WPF version 4.5.2 controls work in a new WinUI desktop app? The only C1 feature I can’t live without is reporting, and FlexReport is not on the list of C1 WinUI controls.

    Hi bhroberts,

WPF UI controls are not supported in WinUI. We will strongly consider providing FlexReport in WinUI sometime in 2022. It won’t be possible to support it sooner. We’ll publish a roadmap early 2022 with details.

We’d be interested to know your plans for WinUI app development and any other feedback you have about the platform.

    Regards,

    Greg

Hi Greg, The line of business software for my company, Extended Day Services, is 90% written with WPF C# . As WPF advanced to .NET Core and then .NET 5 I wrote new programs in separate projects, where it made sense, on the latest .NET platforms in order to take advantage of the improvements and stay current with technology. Soon I hope to rewrite the largest piece that is still in .NET 4.5. And I would prefer to develop with the modern controls that will be available with WinUI. But I won’t be able to start a new project in WinUI unless it doesn’t require reports. But almost every project does.

Another question: Will your WinUI controls be usable in UNO projects? I find UNO to be an intriguing project, but have not yet done anything with it.

    Thanks, Burton Roberts

    Hi Burton,

Thanks for the feedback. I should also point out that our WPF 5.0 controls are identical to WinUI (those that exist in both platforms, anyway). We are sharing code on our end so they have the same API and featureset.

Currently, we have no plans for UNO support, and the WinUI controls will not be supported in UNO at this time. If there’s enough interest and feedback, then we will consider it.

    Regards,

    Greg

Can you tell me the current status of FlexReports in WinUI 3? Is there a chance that you may never have a reporting control for WinUI? Should I look elsewhere for it?

    Hi Burton,

Unfortunately, we will not have FlexReport in WinUI for 2022. It’s still on our long-term roadmap but now it likely will not be until 2023. We are developing the viewer UI for Blazor in 2022 and WinUI would follow.

    Regards,

    Greg
