I’m using 4.0.20182.314 version of this control.

First of all, I think the GroupDescriptions on FlexGrid are really wonderful. However, I have two issues with the group panel which make it unusable right now.

The biggest issue is that a column’s caption is not used for the name of the column header displayed in the group panel. I use UniqueIDs for column names and they show up. I also found that when grouped columns are hidden, they don’t reappear when you clear them through the context menu on the group panel. Pressing the ‘x’ seems to work correctly.

As far as additional features I’d like to see for group panel, I’d like to be able to set the amount of vertical indentation between column headers (ideally allow 0). Also, the GroupDescriptions property lets you set ListSortDirection. It seems like this could be exposed on the group panel.

I also found two very small issues with other related controls that I’m not currently using. When you use C1FlexGridSearchPanel to filter on a grid with GroupDescriptions set, the group rows are filtered out, but magically pop back in when any column is sorted on. However, when the sort occurs, the filtered rows are incorrect. The expression columns for FlexGrid looks really promising. I noticed that it doesn’t allow you to sort on the expression column data, limiting its usefulness a bit.

Thanks for making great winforms controls.

    Hi Ben!

Thank you so much for the appreciation. We will be glad in welcoming your feedback/suggestions in improving our C1 controls.

    Regarding the following issues:

    1. A column’s caption is not used for the name of the column header displayed in the group panel.

    2. When grouped columns are hidden, they don’t reappear when you clear them through the context menu on the group panel.

As I could see the said issues at my end too, I have reported both of them to the development team [Internal Tracking Id: 342819, 342817].

    > “To be able to set the amount of vertical indentation between column headers (ideally allow 0).”

    • As per my understanding, you are willing to set indentation for column headers in the group panel above the grid. Please confirm. Also, let me know its use case so that I can discuss this with the concerned team.

    > “GroupDescriptions property lets you set ListSortDirection. It seems like this could be exposed on the group panel.”

    • Currently, ListSortDirection is provided as an argument to constructor of GroupDescription in the grid. Please clarify, if you want to expose as a public property. It would be better if you can let me know your requirements in this case.

    > “I also found two very small issues with other related controls that I’m not currently using.”

    • I request you to share demonstrating videos for these mentioned issues, clearly showing steps to be performed.

    Regards,

    Meenakshi

    Hello Meenakshi,

Thanks for the reply. The video was 4 minutes long so I had to put it on youtube. Let me know if you have issues finding it.

Also, I wanted to add that I don’t need either of the suggestions I make for the group panel. They just seemed like obvious improvements to me.

Finally, I found another new bug for group panel. It’s in the video, but here’s a text for it: When you group by a column, then sort a different column, then cancel grouping, the “Text” property of the groupPanel seems to be set to empty string.

    Hello!

Thanks Ben! I have reported the bug regarding text issue of group panel, to the development team [Internal Tracking ID: 343354]. You’ll be notified here, once the issue is fixed.

    Moreover, on this:

    > “I wanted to add that I don’t need either of the suggestions I make for the group panel. They just seemed like obvious improvements to me.”

    • I understand, you need not these features at present. But can you please let me know about the possible use cases, so that we can analyze these requirements and forward the requests to the concerned team.

    Regards,

    Meenakshi

    Hi Ben!

All the three reported issues have been fixed in the latest builds. You can either download the builds from here: http://prerelease.componentone.com/dotnet40/c1winforms/2018-t3/C1WinForms.4_4.0.20183.338.zip, or update using C1Live utility, to check the same.

    Meenakshi
