  I would like to pass a parameter from the JSViewer back to the report so that I can dynamically build up the connection string for the data source. I am using rpx files for my reports. It would be very helpful if you could show me how to first get the parameter to the report and then how to access it and dynamically update the connection string on the data source before the report is generated, as my databases are unique per customer.

  You need to use the UseCustomStore to achieve your requirement. I have made the sample for you. Please refer to the attachment.
