PrintBoss not reading the report we sent to it in VB.Net

We were using ActiveReports 1 in VB6 to print our cheques for many years with no issues to PrintBoss (Print Driver). We have upgraded to VB.Net and ActiveReports 17 and having made the report (Section Report) the same as the old version. When we print to PrintBoss, PrintBoss is not seeing the encoding line. We see the value on screen and the information is correct. We basically put a text in the report with specific text sequence (IE: PB#INFO, [Chq:EN],[1234],, )

If we copy the text from the pdf we printed to, and copy it to a word file and send it to PrintBoss, it works. Is AR 17 doing a special formatting/encoding when it is sending it to the print Spooler that is different than AR1? We even tried removing the Use Printing Thread in the ActiveReport Viewer. Tried to print directly to the printer. Still not able to print. Are we missing something?

Has anyone has had that issue before?

    Hi Hans,

Over the years, there has been may changes in ActiveReports since ActiveReports 1. It is hard to pinpoint the exact issue without being able to reproduce this issue at our end.

Although, if you are facing this issue with the ActiveReports Print method I would suggest you to export the report to PDF first and then print the PDF instead. To export the report to PDF, please refer to the following pages of our documentation: PDF Export

If the issue persists then please share the following details with us:

    • Exported PDF file
    • Driver name and version
    • Stripped down sample reproducing the issue and the steps to reproduce it.

We have tried exporting to PDF and it does not work with PrintBoss.

We are able to print the PDF to a normal printer with no issues. Only when we try using PrintBoss as the Printer Driver which is a software to print Cheques.

When we print any report from Active Report, does it send it as a picture or text? I was with PrintBoss support and they told us that the PrintBoss application is not seeing the report and the only reason it wouldn’t, is if the data being printed was in a picture format. We have exported the report into a word document and that works good with no issues. So I know the information on the report is valid.

Is there a way to know how the report is being sent? As text or picture?

    Thanks,

    Hans

    Hi Akshay,

I’m able to give a stripped down version of our application but the issue is that PrintBoss is a paid program and even if you were to use the trial version, you would need to set it up to match our setting and that software is to print Cheque which holds confidential information which we are not able to share at all.

Unfortunately I’m only allowed to do a live video call to show the issues as the confidential information would be restricted.

PrintBoss support has confirmed to us that PDF don’t work with their driver because it send the report has an Image format, and not text.

I just need to know how does ActiveReport send the report data to the printer. As text or image?

    Thanks,

    Hans
