I am looking at AR version 14.1

We are already using Active Reports and we use the Windows based end user report designer. We are looking at the Web Based end user designer since our application is a web application this would be a better alternative for us. I downloaded the sample web designer and I have it working. One difference I see between the Windows designer and the Web based designer is the Script capability. I don’t see that in the Web based designer. Is that available in the Web based designer? If not, is there some other equivalent capability?

    Hello,

Sorry to mention that It is not possible to use the scripting in the WebDesigner directly. However, I have escalated the case to the development team (ARD-1502) for the confirmation on this and will inform you once I get any information from them.

    Thanks,

Thanks for your response. From our testing, it appears that in the web designer if an existing report has script it will not be executed in the Preview. Is that correct?

We are trying to evaluate if it is feasible to switch from the Windows based end user report designer to the web based version. We make use of pretty much all of the features in the Windows End User designer and if the web designer offers a subset of capability we will stop pursing this. Do you have a document that compares the Windows Report Designer capabilities with the Web Designer capabilities? It does not have to be a fancy, published document, just anything with that information.

    Hello,

As per the developer, it is not possible to use scripting in WebDesigner. However, if you have an existing report with the script, it can preview successfully in WebDesigner in Full .Net Framework. if you are using the .Net Core environment, then you can’t preview the report with scripting in WebDesigner.

For the new reports, You could create the report template with the predefined scripts.

Also, all features of Window Designer are supported in the Web designer except the scripting part. Sorry, we don’t have such document with us. If you find such issue, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Mohit

Thanks for the quick response. I did build the MVC Web Based designer with the full .Net Framework and it does not execute the pre defined script. We don’t have the .NET core framework installed on our server. Is there anything else you can recommend that I look at?

    Hello,

I have tested at my end, report with script successfully execute in WebDesigner.

Could you please check with the attached report. if the issue is not reproduced with the attached report then please share the stripped down report or modify the attach one so that I can able to reproduce the issue at my end.

    Thanks,

    Mohit

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded your simple test report and the script in that report did not execute either. I used the F12 debugger in the browser and the only thing I see are two warnings:

A cookie associated with a resource at http://wfdev2/ was set with

    SameSite=None
    but without
    Secure
. A future release of Chrome will only deliver cookies marked
    SameSite=None
    if they are also marked
    Secure
. You can review cookies in developer tools under Application>Storage>Cookies and see more details at https://www.chromestatus.com/feature/5633521622188032.

DevTools failed to parse SourceMap: http://wfdev2:8099/index.min.js.map

I built the example Web Designer using the full .NET Framework, version 4.7.2. Do either of these messages mean anything to you?

    Hello,

I think this warning does not cause the issue. Could you please share the sample in which you are able to replicate the issue. I rechecked at my end and unable to reproduce the issue.

Also, are you able to replicate the issue with the sample(https://github.com/activereports/WebSamples14/tree/master/WebDesignerSamples/WebDesigner_MVC) without doing any changes to the sample?

    Thanks,

    Mohit

I did not change anything about the example project. It is possible I have a newer version of some package than what the project was built with. I attached the csproj file so you can see the versions of the various packages that I am using. Let me know if any of those are incorrect.

    Hello,

Thanks for the csproj file. I am able to reproduce the issue with latest version of NuGet packages. Hence, I have escalated the issue to the development team(ARD-1518) and will inform you once I get any information from them.

    Thanks,

I am back to thinking about this again. Are there any plans to add scripting to the Web version of the report designer, or will that never happen because you have to support .NET Core and it won’t support it?

I have an update from our development team on this. Scripting in WebDesigner is a feature planned for ActiveReports 16 SP2.
