    Hello ComponentOne-Team,

we just bought 3 developer licenses of the “Component One Studio for WPF”.

Everything is working fine, but I have a question of licensing for the build computers.

As far as I understand, every computer that builds our software has to have a ComponentOne License installed. Is this correct?

We use Team Foundation Server for our builds. So there is one build controller and several build agents on different computers.

Does every computer that runs build agents have to have a Component One License installed?

    best regards

    Hi Bernd,

I would like to inform you that on any machine that you are building your solution on, it has to be licensed such that the nag screens are not displayed. Same is the case while building the solution on a build server, if it is not licensed then the nag screen will be displayed.

You need to have a valid license on the server so that the nag screens are not displayed.

Also, kindly ensure that you have included licenses.licx file containing the license entries of all the controls that is being used in your application. Once you will make the working copy of project from the Build Server on your system then all the references will be copied in your project’s working copy. However, while building the project, you will get a nag screen to activate the control on your system. Hence, you need to then activate the license using c1LicenseActivation utility given below and the nag screen will be removed.

If you have the ComponentOne Studio installed on your server**

    1. Download C1LicenseActivation build from the url – http://prerelease.componentone.com/dotnet20/C1Licensing/
    2. Unzip the zipped file and replace it with the C1LicenseActivation.exe in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Componentone Shared\ folder.
    3. Run Command prompt with administrative rights.
    4. Type the following command :

      “C:\Program Files\Common Files\ComponentOne Shared\C1LicenseActivation.exe”
    5. Enter the User name, Company name and license key and click on ‘Next’ button to activate the licenses.

If you DO NOT have the ComponentOne Studio installed on your server**

    1. Download C1LicenseActivation build from the url – http://prerelease.componentone.com/dotnet20/C1Licensing/
    2. Unzip the zipped file in any desired folder, say "d:\licenseactivation.
    3. Run Command prompt with administrative rights.
    4. Type the following command :

      “d:\licenseactivation\C1LicenseActivation.exe”
    5. Enter the User name, Company name and license key and click on ‘Next’ button to activate the licenses.

    PLEASE NOTE :

This will be counted as a licensed install. However, every serial key can be used 3 times. So if you have a serial key then you may use it on your build server provided it has atleast 1 activation left.

In case you are already using your license key on 3 machines, you may either deactivate your serial key on any one of the machines, or you will need to purchase new license for this new activation.

    Hope it clarifies.

    Thanks and Regards,

We have a very old version of Component One v2003. We need to setup a new build server on a Windows 10 machine and will need a license. Do you have a solution for this?

It’s almost impossible to install the studio we need on the computer.

    Hello Scott,

The version (2003) that you are using is quite old and also out of support.

As it was released almost 20 years back when Windows 10 was not present so it was not tested in the Win 10 environment.

The installer link of the 2003 version is given below, you can try installing it but we are not sure whether it will work or not. Also if you have any 2003 version license then you need to activate it via 2003 version installer only.

    http://download.componentone.com/pub/Net/c1studionet/Updates/C1StudioDotNET_Q203.msi

As version 2003 is outdated so we suggest you upgrade to the latest 2022V1 version for continued support.

    Regards,

    Prabhat Sharma.
