Is this even possible

    Hello all,

We have a spread with data selected via a combo box which could be implemented using the MultiColumnComboBoxCellType. The problem is that the items list can number in the thousands when the combo box is dropped. To help minimize this, what I would like to do is mimic a menu and submenu flyout type situation where when the user hovered over a given line in the combo box, other items would be displayed like a submenu to the right. Hopefully the example below helps to give the idea. In the second example, when the user hovered over Item2, then the respective colors would be displayed like submenu flyouts. If instead, Item1 was selected then Red, Green, Yellow, Blue would be displayed instead beginning immediately to the Right of Item1.

    Desc    Color
    Item1   Red
    Item1   Green
    Item1   Yellow
    Item1   Blue
    Item2   Red
    Item2   Blue
    Item3   Red
    Item3   Green
    Item3   Yellow
    Item4   Red
    Item4   Green
    Item4   Yellow
    Item4   Blue

    Modified

    Desc
    Item1
    Item2   Red
    Item3   Blue
    Item4

Is this even possible? If so, how would one go about starting something like this? Thanks in advance for any ideas and/or suggestions!

    j2 -

There is certainly nothing built into the cell type to do this and I'm not sure how you would go about implementing it.  Perhaps you could get the editing control(which is a spread) and display a context menu or something to that effect.
